Mantra of the Week: Slow Down

You know those weeks when you say to yourself, “I just need to make it to Friday and then all will be right with the world”? Last week was one of those weeks.

Between midterm papers for school and a really hectic few days at work, by mid-week I had exhausted myself mentally… and physically. Overworking without breaks is also horrific for the immune system, and I managed to get pretty sick. It was time for a break. So I left the city and went home for a long weekend devoted solely to relaxing and rebooting.

I love the city, but it has been so nice just to spend a few days in the quiet, watching the leaves change, and spending time with my parents. This morning (NYU is on fall break right now) I walked outside barefoot in the chilly air, feeling the grass and crunchy leaves, and just inhaling that crispness that you can only experience for these few fleeting weeks during the year.

Being busy is great. These past weeks have flown by and I am experiencing and learning so much, which is wonderful. But just as much as this is “life,” taking a break and soaking in the other side is just as important, especially when it all begins to catch up with and overwhelm you. Find the balance: work hard, play hard, and find quiet when you can.
